INTELECTO E VONTADE NA CONSTITUIÇÃO DO LIVRE-ARBÍTRIO EM TOMÁS DE AQUINO

O tema da liberdade é recorrente na história da filosofia medieval, onde, para a maioria dos teólogos e filósofos, é pensado a partir da noção de livre-arbítrio. O presente estudo visa apresentar a noção de livre- arbítrio  para  Tomás  de  Aquino,  tal  como  formulada  na  sua  obra  mais  importante,  a Summa Theologiae, especialmente na  Questão 83,  da  Primeira  Parte  e na  Questão  13,  da  primeira  parte  da segunda parte. Apresentamos no capítulo primeiro desta dissertação algumas noções da antropologia tomásica, pois é na natureza humana, composta de alma e corpo, que se articulam importantes conceitos pelos quais podemos compreender o ser humano que pensa, quer e age. Desse modo, é no interior das Questões 82 e 83, tema do nosso segundo capítulo, que abordaremos as potências apetitivas, sensitivas e intelectivas, para daí falarmos em livre-arbítrio. O terceiro capítulo abordará o problema da escolha (electio) a partir de dois textos de Tomás: a Questão 13 da Prima Secundae da Summa Theologiae e a Questão 6 do De Malo. Esta última questão é um lugar privilegiado da obra de Tomás de Aquino para abordar o tema liberdade e sua relação com o intelecto.

The theme of freedom  is  recurrent  in  the history of medieval  philosophy,  which,  for most theologians and philosophers, is thought from the notion of free will. This study aims to present the idea of free will to Thomas Aquino, as formulated in his most important work, Summa Theologiae, especially in Question 83, of the First Part, and Question 13, in the first part of the second part. We present in the first chapter of this work some notions of Thomas Aquino's anthropology  because  is  in  human  nature,  composed  of  soul  and  body,  that  articulate  the important concepts by which we can understand the human who thinks, wants and acts. Thus, within  the  Questions  82  and  83,  subject  of  our  second  chapter,  which  will  approach  the appetitive, sensitive and intellective powers, and then we talk about free will. The third chapter will deal with the problem of choice (electio) from two Thomas’ texts: Question 13 of the Prima Secundae of Summa Theologiae and Question 6 of De Malo. The latter is a privileged site of Thomas Aquino's work to address the issue of freedom and its relation to the intellect.
